Shane at Divine replaced the Fusion stereo and speakers on my boat. He did an incredible job guiding me to the right solution and then doing the install. He was mobile so the experience was quite convenient and the workmanship was of the highest quality. In addition, he gave me recommendations to other service providers to do repairs on my boat. My experience was terrific and I highly recommend Shane and Divine.

Shane was great! Very knowledgeable about audio and electronics, great suggestions for products. Best of all, he picked up my boat and returned it the very next day with all new sound system! Really happy with the update so far!

Shane is wonderful to work with. He put a much needed upgraded sound system on my yacht in Lake Union and some other nice gadgets. Beautiful workmanship.

Gelcoat Restoration Seattle

Heavy Oxidation Removal Brings Chalky Gelcoat Back

Pacific Northwest sun, salt and rain break gelcoat down until it goes chalky and dull. That powdery surface is not just cosmetic: it means the protective layer of the gelcoat is compromised and the breakdown accelerates every season it is left alone.

Heavy oxidation removal is a measured process, not a single pass with a buffer. We assess how deep the oxidation runs, then cut through it with progressively finer marine grade compounds and pads, refining the surface until the gloss comes back. Done right, most of the gelcoat stays on the boat. Done wrong, too much comes off and the finish is permanently thinner.

The final step matters as much as the cutting: a quality sealant or wax locks in the restored finish and slows the next round of oxidation. A boat that gets sealed after correction stays glossy for seasons instead of months.

Capabilities

What We Do

Thermal, low light and engine room cameras, installed and networked as one system.

Gelcoat Assessment

We gauge oxidation depth and gelcoat thickness before choosing compounds, pads and machine speeds.

Multi Stage Compounding

Heavy cut to fine polish in stages, removing oxidized material while preserving as much gelcoat as possible.

Machine Polishing

Professional rotary and dual action polishers refine the surface to a deep, wet looking gloss.

Color Restoration

Faded and yellowed gelcoat brought back to its original color and depth.

Sealing & Protection

Marine sealants and waxes applied after correction so the finish lasts through the season.

Non Skid & Detail Work

Non skid decks, crevices and hardware areas cleaned and brightened by hand where machines cannot reach.

How It Goes

The Process

Four steps from the first look at your boat to a night test on the water.

01

Wash & Decontaminate

The vessel is washed top to bottom so no grit gets ground into the finish during compounding.

02

Assess & Test Spot

We test compounds and pads on a small area to dial in the least aggressive process that gets the result.

03

Compound In Stages

Heavy oxidation is cut away in stages, stepping down to finer grades as the gloss returns.

04

Polish & Refine

Final polishing removes any haze or swirl marks and brings out full depth and clarity.

05

Seal & Protect

A marine sealant or wax locks in the finish and slows future UV and salt damage.

Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Can heavy oxidation always be fixed, or does the boat need paint?

Most chalky, dull gelcoat comes back with multi stage compounding. Paint only becomes the answer when the gelcoat has been buffed through before or is too thin to cut safely. We assess thickness before promising a result.

How long does the restored finish last?

With a quality sealant and reasonable care, one to two seasons before it needs a maintenance polish. Boats kept covered or indoors hold the finish much longer.

How much gelcoat does compounding remove?

A properly done multi stage process removes only the oxidized layer, a tiny fraction of the total thickness. That is why assessment and test spots matter: aggressive single stage cutting is what thins gelcoat dangerously.

What does oxidation removal cost?

It depends on length, condition and how many stages the gelcoat needs. It typically runs above a standard exterior detail, which starts at $850. We quote after seeing the boat.
